Description
Healthcare workers and administrators have been overwhelmed by the surge in patient census. A number of tasks from various departments arose that needed people familiar with the hospital system and basic clinical knowledge. There is a lack of face shields and other PPE in our hospitals, with a significant need for protective equipment that could allow for reuse and repurposing of N95 and surgical masks. Our Approach In communication with our Emergency Management resources, Face Shields were beginning to be created via 3D printing, using an open source model as well as a internally developed model by our research faculty. Using the structure below, Emergency Management submitted a request for personnel to assemble the face shields as well as resource elastic bands and other resources for the production, using our Hotline and Effort to obtain other PPE from businesses and individuals. All students were recruited to volunteer for this assembly, and were provided proper protection and maintained social distancing, as defined by Infection Prevention and Control, who were consulted prior. They work daily to assemble the face shields and then deliver them directly to providers in a safe manner.
