Virtual Standardized Patients Can Accurately Assess Information Gathering Skills in Medical Students

Description

We have developed a Virtual Standardized Patient platform that can understand, respond, categorize, and "assess" student performance in information gathering, which enables students to practice their history taking skills and receive immediate feedback. Accuracy of the system in identifying and correctly classifying History of Present Illness and Past Medical History questions is >90%. This system allows for flexibility, elimination of SP and rater variability, and reduction of cost.
