Business Strategies for Scientists: A Flipped Classroom Learning Experience

Description

Strategy for Scientists is a novel course that teaches basic business strategy concepts to life science PhD students and postdocs. In the flipped classroom model, individuals participate in interactive, expert-led group discussions after first watching online videos and listening to Strategy4Scientist podcasts. Topics include value proposition, developing a strategy, academic-biopharma partnering, frameworks for strategic collaborations, and strategy tools. The flipped format allows for adoption by other groups, and several peer institutions have already replicated it. This innovative course helps students build the professional skills and confidence necessary to make structured, strategic decisions that will impact their research and career success.
