Description
Description
This virtual OB/GYN curriculum is intended to provide significant medical education to third year medical students outside of the clinical environment and to prepare students for OB/GYN clinical experiences. The four-week curriculum covers: 1) Gynecology, 2) Labor and Delivery, 3) High-Risk Obstetrics, and 4) OB/GYN and Subspecialty Surgery. A significant portion of the curriculum involves small group sessions (~6 students per group), during which students participate in case-based learning sessions using APGO Medical Student Educational Topics with the leadership of fourth year medical student facilitators. In addition to the small groups, each week, third year medical students are assigned two mock patient interviews with their fourth-year facilitator, where students will virtually complete a comprehensive patient history and physical examination. After these patient interviews, students complete an oral presentation and write a SOAP note to their assigned attending/resident faculty preceptors. Students will receive feedback and evaluation in their small groups from their fourth-year facilitators as well as their oral presentations and SOAP notes from their faculty preceptors. Additional resources for small group preparation include online material from professional societies and other evidence-based materials. This is a pass/fail curriculum. This virtual curriculum was designed with the goal of teaching the core clinical conditions and learning objectives for a standardized OB/GYN third year rotation on a virtual platform.
